In an op-ed in the Times of Trenton on June 22, 2003, Dr. Robert Slavin describes the gains on New Jersey's fourth grade assessment in Abbott schools from 1999-2002 as "nothing short of phenomenal." Dr. Slavin developed Success for All, a program in use in 67 Abbott elementary schools. Because Abbott targets funding to programs designed to increase student achievement, Dr. Slavin concludes that New Jersey is now "leading the nation" in improving the education of disadvantaged children.
