"Abbott v. Burke, the most important equal education ruling since Brown v. Board of Education." New York Times, April 30, 2002

March 2004

Dear Friend of ELC,

In this 50th anniversary year of Brown v. Board of Education, I hope that you will support ELC by making a donation to our annual fundraising event, "Kids in Concert," which showcases the extraordinary talents of our urban public school children at the New Jersey State Theatre. Just a small donation of $10, $20 or $25 dollars will help us reach our goal this year.

Please consider ELC's outstanding record of accomplishment for New Jersey's public school children. As a result of ELC's representation of the 350,000 disadvantaged children in the Abbott v. Burke litigation, the New Jersey Supreme Court has ordered a comprehensive set of programs and reforms that provide a legal framework for disadvantaged students unrivaled anywhere in the country. These reforms include: $8.6 billion in school construction statewide; high quality preschool programs for over 40,000 children in 30 districts; extraordinary improvements in health and safety aspects of Abbott school buildings; small classes; after school programs; and upgrades in instruction and curriculum.

Your support for "Kids in Concert" will help ELC sustain its efforts to assure that the Abbott programs and reforms proceed so that New Jersey's children receive an education that prepares them for success in the classroom, workplace, and in the community.

To make a contribution, you can either send a check made payable to "Education Law Center" to 60 Park Place, Suite 300, Newark, NJ 07102, attention Danielle Baynes, or click on the link below to make a credit card donation via our secure website.

The concert will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 7:30pm at the State Theatre New Brunswick, and it is open to the public at no cost. I invite you and your family to attend this moving event. Please contact Danielle Baynes at dbaynes@edlawcenter.org for more information.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

David G. Sciarra, Esq.
