Cost Estimates for Renovation and New Construction of Abbott
School Facilities from the Long Range Facilities Plans

Note: The original cost estimates of the Long Range Facilities Plans for each Abbott district have little relevance at this point for the following reasons:

  • The original estimates from 1999 were based on $125 per square foot. The present cost is closer to $200 per square foot in many districts.
  • Most of the Abbott districts have made significant changes in the LRFPs since 1999.
  • The original estimates for many districts do not include adequate space for preschool classes. No community provider facility upgrades were included in the original plans.
  • The total cost estimate for funding Abbott facilities construction and renovations is now between $10 and $12 billion.
